Black...or gray?
So, obviously I have been BUSY around here. I felt this need to paint my kitchen chairs black. They are not old chairs, mind you. But for some insane reason, when I bought them (unfinished special order from Lowes) I thought I would stain them green. It was a nice idea, but I have never really liked it. Anyway, back to my story, I went to Home Depot and bought some oil based black paint after spending lots of wasted time convincing the workers that, yes, I really did want oil based. They told me that nobody used that anymore so I should just prime my chairs and use latex. I told them that I did not want to spend either the money or the time priming them when I was painting them black. (I had to use oil based or prime due the type of stain that we used). So, finally, the guy who was apparently filling in at the paint counter, tells me that they don't have paint to make black. I asked if he was sure, and he says, "no". I couldn't believe it! He called for help, and sure enough, they did have the paint, or so we thought. So, he looks at me and says, "did you pick a paint card?" . Ummmm...I want black. "I need a paint card" Oh my gosh! Lowes never makes me pick a paint card for a basic color! So, I walk over and get the stupid little card that is black and he mixes it. He opens the lid and it is gray! I say, umm...that looks gray. He tells me not to worry, it will dry black. Okaaaay. So, yesterday, I paint my chairs black (or gray). If you have ever used oil based paint, it is a pain in the butt to paint with! I waited all day for it to dry, and sure enough, it dried...gray. So, this morning, I had to make a trip to our retarded Home Depot store so they could make my gray paint black. I go to the paint counter and tell the guy what I need and he looks at me like I have lost my mind. He says, "I don't know how to mix paint, I don't work in this area" WHY IN THE WORLD DID HE ANSWER THE BEEP FOR PAINT??? I was in shock and trying not to yell at this poor guy. Our Home Depot leaves a lot to be desired. He tells me he is just going to mix a new gallon (he called for assistance). Well, his help comes and they determine that they do not carry the base to mix black paint. WHAT?? So I politely ask for my money back, and he says he must call to see if that will be okay. I finally get my $23 back and leave the store with hopes of never ever having to return there. I make my way to the trusted establishment of Lowe's and tell the nice old man that I need black oil based paint. He says, coming right up and 3 minutes later, I am in line to pay for true black paint. After all his mess, I now have black chairs. They are just perfect! I should write a letter to Lowes thanking them for their expeditious help and service!
