Youth 50's Costume Party!!

Our youth had a 50 for 50's party Wednesday.  The goal was to have 50 students there.  We had 45, which wasn't our goal, but WOW!  It was great!

I went on the search for the perfect outfit to wear for this shindig.  In my mind, I had it pictured perfectly.  It was a ruffly prom dress straight from the Grease movie set.  Now, I'm not at all certain that Grease was set in the 1950's, but that is a  minor detail.  I wanted a perfectly peach prom dress.  With ruffles.  Really.  There is no such thing as a perfect outfit unless you have a bounty of cash to spend on vintage clothing.  Soooooooo...I went with the second option...whatever I could find.  Gracie and I hit the resale shops a couple Saturdays ago and spent a good six hours searching.  It was great fun, and FULL of laughter.   I would share the photos of some of the outfits, but I would hate for you to pee your pants as you read.  And trust me, it could happen.  I did find a perfectly peach prom dress.  It had lace and it was ankle length and it fit like it was sewn just for me.  I'm not sure I have ever felt so thin in all my life.  But the general consensus was that the dress was from the 60's-70's, and it just wouldn't work.  Imagine my supreme disappointment.  It was peach!  HA!

Here it is.  The skirt is very itchy.  Someone forgot to line it so the scratchy tulle that made it fluffy rubbed the skin off my body.  Nice.  Chatty had a fabulous pair of polka dotted earrings and a red scarf.  A lady from church had the black scarf, and I found the rest out shopping.
Cute earrings, huh?!  And red lipstick of course.
There are so many little details to my juke box.  I wish you could see them.  Because it looks pretty lame in this picture, but I assure you.  It was not.
This is just fun, bubbly cuteness.
The "rug" was for a marshmallow spitting contest...it was hilarious!  They had to try to hit a record (Faith and I scored a good 30 albums at a garage sale last weekend for $5!)
Me on Cam's bike.  Because I had to.
 The girls did too.
My main squeeze.  I love him.

There you have it.  Balloons galore.   Old school records on the walls (that you can't see), my hand-painted juke box and milkshake, and the balloon arch that Cam constructed.  It took forever it seemed to tie all those balloons on there!  I thought my fingers would surely fall off, or I would lose my eyesight trying to see clear fishing line as I tied knots.  But, I think the youth enjoyed their party, which makes every bit of time totally worth it!
