This is the fifth year that I have home-schooled my children. This is Faith's second year. She is struggling...which means I am struggling. More days than not, I think that perhaps I should give up and send her to the public school and let them try to teach her to read and write better.
Let me just get this out there before I continue. I am NOT anti-public school. I think it is an awesome opportunity for people to be able to go and learn! We home-school because we feel that this is what the Lord has asked us to do in this season of our life. As soon as He gives me the green light, I will happily enroll them at the school down the street and retire from teaching. :)
Okay. Back to Ms. Faith. She is a ball of fun-filled energy. She is sweet and kind and the most loving child. She, however, does not like school. She likes to play and pretend and draw. As soon as I get out a book or anything related to learning that she can tell, she gets all negative on me. She is actually quite bright. She is fabulous at math and memorizes like no other (which you would think would make reading easier), but letters cause her turmoil. She knows every sound that every letter makes when I show her flashcards (and I mean, she knows that "y" makes 4 sounds, and that "a" makes 3 sounds. She knows them all!), but when she is looking at a book, she forgets letters altogether!
The girls were tested by the IMB as part of the process, and Faith tested in her grade level, but it wasn't high in her grade level. So, we are holding off on proceeding until she can retake the test in December (not by choice). She must show improvement. This means that I have a huge amount of responsibility sitting squarely on my shoulders. I am trying not to stress, but it isn't working so well for me. Ha! So, rather than continue along this line of dwelling in my negativity, I will say that we are praying about it and for our sweet Faith, and we are trusting that God knows how this will all turn out. We trust that it will bring Him glory and that we will all learn something from this little trial.

Do you have a sweet teacher friend who could give you some insight? Faith and Parker sound like two little pea's in a pod! What kind of learner is she? I'm praying ...

We use this program and the girls love it and I will be praying for you. We went through the same thing that why I finally enrolled the oldest in Connection Academy public school at home and it help a lot to make her more in charge of her learning.
