Homeless

We went on a field trip yesterday with Gracie's Kids Care class to a local homeless shelter...wow. I was humbled to say the least. I had imagined what a "real" shelter would be like basing all my notions on what I have seen on tv, and let me assure you, Hollywood is doing a dang good job of capturing the homeless life. Down to the furry thick matted beards on the old black men. There was a large room filled with black rubber mats about 2 inches thick spaced about 4 inches apart on the floor. These were the first come first serve beds. This is what people wait in line for all day until the 5 o'clock hour when the doors open. We then had a glimpse at the women and childrens shelter. The lady who was giving us the rundown started her talk with "I lived here with my son. And let me tell you, people don't wake up one day and say, "hey. I wanna go live in the shelter" Your whole world is upside down." Umm. My eyes filled up and I was blinking rapidly trying to keep the moisture locking inside. My heart was wrenched. And all I could of was how much I complained about living in tinyville with a miniature fridge and stove. No more. I don't wanna be like that. I am thankful!

Wow. I guess that would be an eye-opening experience. We are so blessed!
